Why was I banned from a Matrix room? What can I do now?
If you were banned from one of the Matrix rooms within the 4d2.org Space by a server admin, room admin or room moderator, a reason will be included with your ban and visible in your client. Matrix doesn't currently have a clean mechanism for temporary bans; if an admin or moderator indicates that you've been banned for a specific period of time, you should be able to rejoin the room after that.
Other Matrix rooms have their own practices around bans, and if you were banned by an admin or moderator in one of those rooms, you'll need to direct any questions or appeals to them.
If you were banned from any room by 4d2.org's Abuse Management Bot, the ban likely occurred because you were banned for spam or trolling by an admin or moderator in another room, possibly on another Matrix server. Abuse Management Bot's bans rely on ban lists, both local to our server and shared with other servers, and heuristics designed to detect abusive behavior. Community bans are generally conservatively applied and very rarely conflict with our Code of Conduct for public spaces. We do not make Abuse Management Bot's exact configuration public.
If you are trying to join one of our public rooms for the first time and receiving a message that you're not allowed to join, it's likely because the server where your account was created has very lax registration practices that make it a source of spam. Please contact your server's admin and ask them to enable email validation and/or CAPTCHAs in their registration flow.
You may appeal any ban to the server admins by opening an "Appeal a Ban or Block" ticket, whether or not your Matrix account was registered with us.
