I get an error when accessing depot. Chrome gives a security error / I see PR_END_OF_FILE_ERROR using Firefox.

If your connection to depot is timing out, check our service status and scheduled maintenance windows on our homepage. It's possible that depot is undergoing maintenance, or that there's a problem on our side.

If you see a security error instead, including PR_END_OF_FILE_ERROR in Firefox, read on.

These errors usually indicate that you're behind a proxy server that's unexpectedly closing your connection. You may be running a local proxy, like anti-virus software or an ad/malware blocker, that's interfering with your connection. You may also unknowingly be behind a TLS termination proxy that's intercepting your TLS connections. This is particularly common on company- and school-issued machines. You can check whether you're in this situation by comparing the certificate fingerprint you receive from "depot.4d2.org" against the current certificate fingerprint for depot.4d2.org listed onĀ our security status page.

  • On Firefox, you can check the fingerprint you're receiving by clicking the lock icon left of the address bar -> More Information -> View Certificate, and scrolling down to "SHA-256" under "Fingerprints" in the tab that opens.
  • On Chrome and most other Chromium-based browsers, click the icon left of the address bar -> Not Secure -> Certificate Details, and check the SHA-256 fingerprint labeled "Certificate" in the pop-up that appears.

Since sites like depot are sometimes considered malware sites, proxies with filters enabled do sometimes block connections to depot. This is unfortunately out of our control.

If you find that you're behind a TLS termination proxy, you should be aware that any information you exchange over HTTPS can be read in plaintext by the proxy operator, even if your browser indicates that your connection is secure.
